Atlas

Atlas is an open world adventure game where you use a hoverboard and glider to explore the world.

This game was created in Unreal 5.1 for my university second year team game project over the course of 9 months with a team size of 11 people of varying disciplines including designers, artists, programmers, an animator and a writer

During this project I took the role of a support programmer focusing on UI and UX as well as a behind the scenes focus on repository management and supporting team members of other disciplines.

During this project I found myself interacting a lot with team members outside of my discipline to ensure a smooth development experience for everyone, this heavily developed my teamworking skills as well as my communication skills and my understanding of all other disciplines within my teams composition. I also gained a wider understanding of repository management and learned a lot about how it should work to support a project.

One of the most important roles I played within the project was the design and programming of all the menus and user interaction outside of the character controller.

My major gameplay contribution to this project was my creation of the world map UI using vectors and world space calculations to show the accurate and live position of the player in the world space, as well as a waypoint system that the player has total control over its location which was created in collaboration with another programmer to diegetically direct the player to the placed waypoint without disrupting gameplay.
